Local & Regional Opportunities
Corrections Ministries
Madison Street supports this ministry through Mission of the Month and the
collection of clothing and other in-kind gifts. Also, by designating
Corrections Ministries as a Communion offering in the month of January.
Adult
Literacy
A
county-wide organization, Madison Street participates by serving as an Adult Literacy Satellite Learning
Center providing space and tutors for teaching others how to read. Training
for Tutors is required and available.
Urban
Ministries
Sponsored by the United Methodist Church, Urban
Ministries serves as the clearing house for Montgomery County in identifying
and addressing the needs of the poor throughout the region Volunteers serve
as receptionists and staff the food pantry.
APSU Wesley Foundation
At
Austin Peay State University the Wesley Foundation is a United Methodist Student Center.
Madison Street supports Wesley Foundation through financial gifts and
volunteers on occasion to help cook and provide their Tuesday noon luncheon.
Crisis Pregnancy Center
Offers support, care and direction for women who are in the midst of a
crisis pregnancy. Provides counseling and compassionate care through a
trained staff. Volunteers are needed to serve as receptionists and to help staff the thrift store run by Crisis Pregnancy called Josephine’s Closet.

Crisis
Call Line
MSUMC
supports CCL through an annual financial gift which is included in our
Outreach budget.
Safe House
Supported by Urban Ministries, Safe House is a safe haven for women and
children who are victims of domestic violence. Volunteers serve as
receptionists.
Loaves and Fishes
Based
at First Presbyterian Church, this ministry serves hot-meals to the homeless
of Clarksville Monday through Saturday of each week. Individuals and groups
are invited to work as volunteers with the trained staff of Loaves and Fishes to both prepare and serve the meal.
1st Christian Church
Food Pantry
Based
at 1st Christian Church. Provides food items for persons/families
in need.
Habitat for Humanity
A
nation-wide ministry, Habitat for Humanity works with volunteers in actually
building low-cost 2 and 3 bedroom homes for struggling families. Sponsored
families are required to give a certain number of “sweat-equity” hours
working along side volunteers in the construction process. You will want to
watch both the weekly worship bulletin and the monthly Street Scene for
details.
Salvation Army
One
of the few shelters in Clarksville the Salvation Army offers meals and
housing for the homeless and working poor. Volunteers are invited to help
prepare and serve meals and/or serve as receptionists.
Urban Ministries School Supplies
Many
parents throughout the Clarksville area do not have the resources to provide
the school supplies needed each year for their children. Supplies are
collected in August in behalf of Urban Ministries.
Urban Ministries Coats for Kids
When
the cold winter months approach not all children have winter coats. In
behalf of Urban Ministries Madison Street collects winter coats, mittens,
hats and scarf for children in the month of October.
Urban Ministries Food Pantry
It is
the largest food pantry in Montgomery County and is supported by churches
throughout the region. Madison Street collects food items in the month of
December for this vital ministry.

Pastoral Counseling Center
A
regional ministry, the Pastoral Counseling Centers of Tennessee is a
Church-based center offering pastoral counseling to individuals and
families. Fees are based on a sliding scale. Volunteers are needed to serve
as receptionists. The center is located at 1st Christian Church
in Clarksville.
Local Emergency Fund
The
local emergency fund enables Madison Street pastors and staff to address the basic living needs of individuals and/or families “after
hours” when other helping agencies are closed for the evening or during
holidays.
Project 20/20 Eyeglass
Collection
Each
year, we collect used eyeglasses and prescription sun glass for Dr. Jim
McCord of Lebanon, TN who utilizes them as a apart
of the Volunteer In Missions Program in Guatemala.
Meals
on Wheels
Madison Street supports Meals on Wheels annually through both the Outreach
budget and by designating this ministry for a communion offering. Hot
meals are delivered by volunteers to the elderly and shut-ins who cannot
prepare meals for themselves.
Mission of the Month
Each
month Madison Street focuses on a local ministry in an effort to better
educate the congregation about the ministry, collect in-kind gifts for the
ministry and recruit volunteers. You will want to watch the weekly worship
bulletin and monthly Street Scene for details.
Sunday
Dinner
Each
Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon the working poor and homeless of
Clarksville are welcomed and served a hot meal. This opportunity to serve
is open to older children, youth and adults.
Tennessee Conference Hunger
Offering
Each
December, MSUMC designates the Christmas Eve Communion Offering in support
of hunger ministries throughout Middle Tennessee.

National and
International Opportunities
United Methodist Apportionments
Through this financial support Madison Street Church joins hands and hearts
with every other United Methodist Church in the world supporting over 1,600
missionaries, 65 hospitals and health-care facilities, 225 retirement and
long-term care facilities, 100 United Methodist Colleges and Universities
and 13 schools of Theology. Additionally over 250 million dollars will be
spent in disaster relief around the world for persons who are touched by
natural disasters. Our apportionments are a way for United Methodist
Churches to do together what they could not do alone.
Volunteers In Mission
Mission teams, working in the areas of construction,
education and/or medicine serve in rural Central America. Opportunities for
individuals and groups are available each year. Most recently we have
served in Guatemala, where the first Methodist school (The John Wesley
School) was completed in March 2004. There is the possibility of
constructing the second Methodist school in Guatemala in 2005
.

Refugee Kits for UMCOR
UMCOR
- United Methodist Committee on Relief is the largest Church-based Relief
Organization in the world. Refugee Kits are packed and collected each year
by MSUMC and donated to UMCOR as a Mission of the Month.
Occasional Ministries
As
needs arise, Madison Street Church also responds to local and international
needs. You will want to watch for word of these opportunities in both the
weekly worship bulletin and the monthly Street Scene.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a
prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need
of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are
prayed into every shawl. Knitters and crocheters are welcome to meet
together at MSUMC the last Friday morning of each month. During the school
year there is also a gathering the last Wednesday evening of each month To
