Cliff's Message For This Sunday

Dear Friends at Madison Street,
 
Have you ever wondered what God wanted you to be doing?  I’m serious.  Have you ever spent much time thinking about or wrestling with this whole issue of what it is that God wants you to do—not what someone else wants, but what God wants you to do—and not what God wants somebody else to do, but what God wants you to do?  That’s what we’re going to look at in our sermon Sunday in a message entitled, “How to Live A Better Story—Seek God’s Will.”  Our Scripture will be Isaiah 58:6-12 and Matthew 6:33.
 
We’re looking at the idea of Living A Better Story in our own life.  Jesus said that we Live A Better Story by seeking first the kingdom of God and God’s righteousness.  That’s really the beginning point, isn’t it?  That’s where a better story really starts.  To tell a better story with our life we look at what it is that God wants for us.  We seek God’s will.  That sounds easy enough, except for one thing—me!  I’ve got to acknowledge that so oftentimes what I’m really wanting God to do is just give His approval for me to do what I want.  I’m not seeking God’s will—I’m seeking God’s affirmation.  Can you relate to that?
 
Here’s the deal.  We all want a better story.  A better story begins with seeking God’s will, God’s direction for each of us.  It’s not as easy as it sounds, but it’s worth it because it gives us life.  That’s what we’re going to wrestle with this Sunday.  I think you’ll see that this is the most important message in the series so far.  God has a mission for us—for Madison Street UMC and for us.  This is our time to be used by God.
 
So what is it that God wants us to do?  I can’t wait to poke around that question with you.
