Growing on the Vine

The vine is the most widely used plant form in Christian art.  It stands as a symbol of the new relationship between God and human beings in Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the vine; his followers are the branches.  "Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing." - John 15:5

"Growing on the Vine" is our process for helping people to grow as disciples of Christ on our journey of faith.  We use this model to help us offer classes and small groups for different stages of faith development.  We also have an assessment tool that will help individuals and groups assess where they are in their journey of faith and which classes or studies will help them continue to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.  

The Stages of "Growing on the Vine" 

THE DIGGING STAGE
You are at the very beginning of understanding what faith is all about.
You are digging deeper as you seek to understand who God is and what it means
to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

THE PLANTING STAGE
You are beginning your journey of discipleship by planting the seeds
that will allow you to further grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
You are ready to study the Bible, and you want to develop and
have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

THE SPROUTING STAGE
Your faith is firmly established and sprouting into new areas.
You are ready to understand what it means to serve Christ by serving others.
You want to study the Bible more intentionally and apply it
to your daily life.

THE BLOSSOMING STAGE
Your faith is keenly developed and blossoming.
You are ready to identify your spiritual gifts and use them
for service in the church and in our community.

THE BEARING FRUIT STAGE
Your faith is fully-developed and bearing fruit.
You understand fully the importance of the church
and the mission of Madison Street United Methodist Church
to grow disciples of Jesus Christ who Know Him, Love Him & Serve Him.
You are ready to help others become disciples of Jesus Christ!
